Our Story

It all began in a little country town called Maleny on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Josef Zehnder in 2006 was asked to produce a cake and biscuit range to supply a local establishment. In 2007, having done trials with only ‘gluten free foods’ after 9 months in market research/sales, the Zehnder family established the ‘Zehnder Gluten Free’ in a brand new 350sqm factory dedicated solely to the production of gluten free food.

Since then much has happened and Zehnder Gluten Free is now available throughout Australia and internationally. In 2010, the expansion saw the start of two new dedicated production facilities that will become operational in 2011; one on the Sunshine Coast and one separate brand new production facility for the European market based in Switzerland. The year 2011 and beyond will see further International and Domestic expansion and many product additions in all markets.

Zehnder Gluten Free is today still fully owned and operated by the Zehnder Family. Much credit goes to the dedicated and passionate staff that make up the Zehnder Gluten Free Team today.

Zehnder Gluten Free’s aim is to provide the best Gluten Free product available and become the name synonymous with the best Gluten Free product around the globe, something many consumers believe we have already achieved.

It is our belief that Gluten Free should be equal to any other product. We believe we make Gluten Free the way it should be, suitable and loved by all consumers not just Coeliacs.

Josef Zehnder was born, raised and educated in Switzerland and migrated to Australia in 1988. He is well known in the Australian and international Food industry having owned, founded and run well known food manufacturing companies over the years. In his last 15 years he has received five Australian Telstra business Awards, a Premier of Queensland export award and numerous domestic and international best food awards.
